New Vision Science Innovation Alliance Launched to Boost Eye Research and Patient Impact
A new cross-sector initiative — the Vision Science Innovation Alliance (VSIA) — has been launched in Victoria to drive collaboration in clinical care, research, education and translation of vision science outcomes for patients with chronic eye conditions. The alliance, formally launched on 8 October during Vision Expo at the Centre for Eye Research Australia, brings together leading institutions including the University of Melbourne, Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA), Australian College of Optometry, Cerulea Clinical Trials and The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. With more than 13 million Australians living with chronic eye health issues, and up to 90 % of vision loss considered preventable or treatable, the new alliance aims to accelerate research translation into real-world clinical benefit. The VSIA will coordinate efforts across four strategic focus areas: collaborative research and innovation; clinical trials; workforce talent and training; and engagement with government and community stakeholders to influence policy and improve health equity. Professor Keith Martin of the University of Melbourne and CERA will chair the alliance’s steering committee, emphasising that pooling expertise and resources across partner organisations will elevate Australia’s capacity to deliver meaningful advances in vision science and patient care. - Story credit: University of Melbourne Newsroom
